Password Change

General Information

You are changing your MyID password to meet UGA's requirements, so this change is not an option. The MyID password change has to be done six months after the last password change was made in January 2007. UGA requires your password to be a strong password, which means your MyID password must be between 8 and 29 characters with a minimum of one special character, (i.e. !,@,#,$). The passwords may not contain dictionary words.

If the term "MyID" confuses anyone, do not be thrown off by this. Anyone who has a UGA email account has a MyID. If your email was bob@uga.edu, then your MyID is bob. MyID is at the top of the hierarchy. When you first come to UGA, a MyID is set up for you, and from that you receive access to many MyID services which include UGA email.

Procedural Steps

  1. Change your password on the MyID website
  2. Change your corresponding password in Outlook or Pegasus
  3. *Blackberry Users Only* Change your corresponding password for your Blackberry

The left red boxes are links to tutorials that show you how to change your MyID password, how to make the password change in your email client, i.e. Outlook, Pegasus, and also how to change the password on your Blackberry if applicable. Locate the video tutorial on the left red boxes that correspond with the task you wish to complete. When you click on a link the tutorials will open for viewing. Unknown Passwords And/Or Secret Questions And Answers

For those of you who may not remember your current password you will at least need the ability to answer the Secret Questions and Answers that you set in January 2007. If you do not know either please call EITS directly at 706-542-3106. If you are not familiar with EITS (Enterprise Information Technology Services), they are another information technology (IT) unit on campus devoted to keeping everything going smoothly. They are responsible for managing and maintaining the MyID servers which is where all UGA email traffic passes through.

Pegasus

The procedure to change your password will differ in Pegasus depending on your version and which type of account you have set, e.g. POP3 vs IMAP. A POP3 account is an account which downloads all email messages off the email server and saves them to your computer. An IMAP account links to the email server and does not download the messages to your computer; you are only viewing the messages directly on the email server. If you are in a county extension office, you most likely use a POP3 account. Remember, you need to know what type of account you have for Pegasus to proceed in changing the password; if you don't know or can not determine what type of account you have, please call the OIT Help Desk at 706-542-2139 or your county support person.

Blackberry

For those of you who have a Blackberry or another similar device, you will need to take an extra step or two to ensure everything still works well. If your device uses Oracle Connector for Outlook to synchronize data, please refer to the Outlook video pertaining to Oracle Connector for Outlook. Also if you have a Blackberry you will have to go to the appropriate website and change the password they have stored for your email. Please refer to the Blackberry links on the left for video tutorials on changing the password for your device. You will need to know if you are a Notify Link user or a Blackberry Internet user. If your device syncs completely over the air then you use Notify Link (UGA Blackberry Service). Otherwise you use Blackberry Internet Service.
