NO EMAIL ATTACHMENTS ALLOWED ON CAES LISTSERVS
WHY CAN"T I SEND AN ATTACHMENT?
Because of problems with viruses, attachments are not allowed to be sent to any of the College Listservs managed by OIT. Instead we put the attachment on the web and send you a url to send in your message to the listserv.
In your email instead of sending an attachment, you would simply point to a URL (Web address) for downloading the file(s). Recipients can just clink on the
link, go to a web page and download the file(s). The page on the web will show who's sending the file and filetype. The advantages are that files can be virus
checked ahead of time, and e-mail won't be as clogged with attachments. Please note this does not change your ability to send attachment to individual
recipients. This only applies to the College listservs.
HOW DO I GET THE URL TO INCLUDE IN MY MESSAGE?
To take advantage of this option, send your attachment to oithelp@uga.edu at least 4 hours before you plan to send out the message, and include the date the file can be removed from the Web. You will be notified of the URL to include in your message as soon as the file has been posted. Please restrict requests to messages which will be sent from the College listservs.
A note of caution: The URL of the file will not be linked on any Web pages, but it will not be secure--anyone could find it if they tried hard.
