What is eCare? eCare is a comprehensive HelpDesk
service application, which provides your OIT support personnel with
a method to help you resolve computer problems or work through 'How
To' situations from a remote location. It performs functions such
as interactive messaging with support agents, system analysis tools,
and remote assistance applications.
What does this mean to me? WITH YOUR PERMISSION,
remote access will allow your support agent to view and/or take
control of your system. In many cases this can eliminate the need
for an on-site service call, and gets you the service and resolution
you need in a timely manner.
How do I access eCare? eCare can be accessed by

What are the requirements for eCare? eCare requires
the use of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Internet Explorer version
5.5 or higher. In order to fully utilize the remote access features
of eCare, a high-speed internet connection is necessary. If you
do not have Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher, your browser will appear
in Red below. If this is the case, please visit the link shown below
to obtain the latest version. If your browser shows up in green,
your version is up to date.
NOTE If you are running Windows XP with Service Pack 2
installed: Service pack 2 for Windows XP has been known
to cause problems with the initial installation of the remote access
software. To enable a work-around for this issue, please follow
the instructions below.
In Internet Explorer, go to "Tools"--> "Internet Options" --> "Security";
then click on the "Custom Level" button. Once the "Security Settings"
box appears you will scroll down and check the radio button for
"Enable" under the "Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins." Select "OK"
to close the "Security Settings" box; then select "Apply" and "OK"
to return to your browser. Below is a picture of the "Security Settings"
box. Once that is done, you should click "Yes" to install the controls
from the website. This setting only needs to be changed for the
initial remote control install; once installed you should then return
to the "Security Settings" box and select "Reset" to restore the
default settings.
